Ireland's meadows
This an area of 8 acres in total, divided into 3 separate meadows. The first meadow you come to is ideal for parking and/or camping. From here there is a short walk through an avenue of lime trees to the entrance of the main meadow. Passing under a honeysuckle covered archway there is a path that meanders to a restored Victorian stone bridge over the stream. Walking over this bridge takes you to a log cabin with a jetty that reaches out over a stocked lake of 1/2acre with a large island. This area is surrounded by mature trees and opens onto the main events meadow area. Here the lake is bordered on one side by weeping and coloured stem willow trees.
The main meadow area is surrounded by mature native trees and mixed fruit and nut hedging. There is a raised bank running around the perimeter which has been sown with wild flower seeds. This produces a colourful display of spring and summer flowers that provide a brilliant back drop. There is also a newly planted orchard of mixed fruit trees.
Early in the year the island in the middle of the lake is covered in early flowering daffodils and in the spring there are drifts of snowdrops in bloom around the cabin area and down beside the stream.
Beside the log cabin are 2 huge horse chestnut trees that are joined by a common branch. The combined branches form a wonderful canopy under which to sit.
This is a tranquil wild life haven that would be the perfect setting for any really special event.
Leiston Abbey
Leiston Abbey is a beautiful historic site dating from 1363, set in the Suffolk countryside only a short drive from the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold. The beautiful abbey ruins are incorporated into the buildings providing a stunning backdrop for your wedding.
Parts of the ruins and buildings were purchased in the 1970s by Pro Corda, the International Chamber Music Academy, a charity running music courses for children and adults.
The barn is a large space suitable for many different functions and is licensed for up to 160 people. It is a building full of character with a superb thatched roof supported by vast old beams and the beautiful candelabra provide a stunning and romantic effect. With a self-contained bar and a raised platform ideal for live music, disco and dancing, the barn is the perfect place for receptions and functions.
Some fifteen years ago the remains of the Abbey's medieval Guest Hall were discovered under a tangle of brambles and an old cattle shelter. Once restored, the remains were preserved exactly as found and the resulting building is very special. The red tiled roof is supported by a series of wooden clad pillars and the original walls can be seen clearly, both inside and outside the building.
